Dorothy "Dot" Sutherland, 59, of Cherryville, passed away February 22, 2018 at CMC – Lincolnton.
She was born November 13, 1958 in Macon County, the daughter of the late Fredrick Lee Bates and Kay Frances Campbell.
Dot was a member of Souls Harbor Tabernacle in Dallas. She was a member of The Secret Sisters Group. She loved her family, shopping and her great-grandson, Waylon.
The family wishes to say a special thank you to the Hospice of Lincoln County.
Left to cherish her memories are her step-dad, Tommy Ellison; daughters Violet Burnette and husband Frank, Christina Mayberry; brothers Boonie Bates, Ricky Bates and wife Kelley; sister Geraldine Stephens; grandchildren Michael Barrett, Brooklyn Mayberry, Christian Mayberry, Hayle Barrett, Robert Burnett, Matthew Mayberry, Raven Burnett and T.J. Burnett; great-grandson Waylon Russell and nephew and nieces Courtney Bates, Ricky Lee Bates and Kimberly Stewart.
A funeral service, officiated by Pastor Eric Quinn will be held 7 pm Monday at Greene Funeral Service – South Chapel, 1503 S. York Rd., Gastonia.
The family will receive friends 6 – 7 pm prior to the service at the funeral home.
A graveside service will be held 11 am Tuesday at Valley Chapel Cemetery, Old Fort, NC.
Arrangements are with the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service and Crematorium, Gastonia.
