Dorothy Jean Stewart Aycock, 87, of Gastonia, passed away April 19, 2015 at Terrace Ridge Assisted Living. She was born October 15, 1927 a native of Gaston County, the daughter of the late Walter Clyde and Corrie Freeman Stewart. Dorothy was a devoted, loving wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed gardening, shopping and collecting Christmas items, especially nutcrackers. She was employed as a manager for over 30 years at the Belmont Abbey Book Store and was also a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Gastonia. The family wishes to give special thanks to Hospice of Lincoln County and the staff at Terrace Ridge. Left to remember Dorothy are her loving husband of 48 years, George Stewart Aycock; son, Robert Curtis Sanborn, Jr. of Gastonia; daughter, Teresa Sanborn Mendigutia and husband, Felix of Summerville, SC; sister, Patsy Joann Howell of California; grandchildren, Tracy Robbins of Florida, Dr. Robert Curtis Sanborn III and wife, Lori Beth of Moorehead City; great-grandchildren, Luke, Laura Bennett and Noah and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert C. Sanborn; brother, C.L. Stewart and sister, Glenda Mae Stewart. A memorial service will be held 11:00 am Saturday, May 2nd at St. Mark's Episcopal Church - 258 W. Franklin Blvd., Gastonia, officiated by the Rev. Shawn Griffin. The family will receive friends following the service in the Parrish Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mark's Episcopal Church - 258 W. Franklin Blvd., Gastonia, NC 28052.
