In Loving Memory of Dorothy "Renee" Brooks
Dorothy Renee Brooks, lovingly known as Renee, age 73, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2026, after a life filled with love, hard work, family, and service to others.
Renee lived in South Gastonia for most of her life and was blessed to spend her final days at home, surrounded by the comfort of her own surroundings and the people who cared deeply for her. She was cared for with the loving help of hospice, her grandson Justin Hudson, and family friend Hali Cloninger, who stood alongside her and helped care for her during the end of her life.
Renee was born to George Arthur Wilson and Louise Stacey Wilson. Her father proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II, serving with the 238th Combat Engineer Battalion in Africa. Her mother, Louise, devoted her life to caring for her children and their home. Renee carried those same values of family, strength, hard work, and devotion throughout her own life.
Renee was a devoted wife and was legally married to her husband, Marvin Brooks, for 25 years before his passing. Family was always at the heart of Renee's life. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and great-grandmother, and the people she loved were never far from her heart.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Brooks; her daughter, Shelly Carpenter Black; her grandson, Nick Hudson; and her sister, Pam Adair.
Renee is survived by her grandson, Justin Hudson; granddaughter, Cailyn Campbell; brother, Steve Wilson; and the great-grandchildren who brought a special kind of joy to her life: Ayden Hudson, Aubrey Hudson, Jeremiah Hudson, and Ryan Hudson.
One of Renee's greatest privileges was being able to watch her family grow and to share precious moments with her great-grandchildren. Ayden, Aubrey, Jeremiah, and Ryan were deeply loved, and having them in her life gave her countless memories that will continue to live on through them.
Those who knew Renee will remember her for her big heart and the way she never hesitated to lend a helping hand. If someone needed her, Renee was the kind of woman who showed up. She was dedicated, hardworking, family-centered, compassionate, and always willing to give of herself to help someone else.
Renee spent many years working in textiles before beginning a career in healthcare, where she continued doing what came naturally to her-caring for people. She also served her community as president of the Community Watch, giving her time and energy to help protect and support the people around her.
Renee also had a special gift for growing things. She had a natural green thumb and loved having a garden. Every season brought another opportunity to plant something new, nurture it, and watch it grow. Her garden was a reflection of who she was: patient, hardworking, nurturing, and always willing to put in the work to see something beautiful come to life.
Renee's life was not measured simply by the years she lived, but by the lives she touched. She gave her time, her strength, her love, and her helping hand to those around her. She taught her family the importance of working hard, loving deeply, and never turning away someone in need.
Though her hands are now still, the love she planted in her family will continue to grow through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all those fortunate enough to have known her.
Her garden may no longer have her hands to tend it, but the seeds of love she planted in the hearts of her family will bloom for generations to come.
Rest peacefully, Renee. You were loved, you are missed, and you will never be forgotten.
