Doris Jean Laughter

We are heartbroken to share that Doris Jean Laughter, a beloved wife, mother, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on February 24, 2025, at the age of 87.

Born on February 18, 1938, in Rutherfordton, North Carolina, daughter of the late Thurman Robertson, Minnie Robertson. Doris spent her life in Bessemer City, where she created countless cherished memories with her family and friends.

Doris, known fondly as a kind-hearted soul, worked as a winder operator in the textiles industry, showing incredible dedication and hard work throughout her life. She was a former member of Chapel Grove Church of God. She loved to travel and go camping, spending time with her family at dirt track racing. She was the best mother, grandmother, and wife.

In addition to her parents Doris was also preceded in death by her sister, Martha Dixon; brothers, Ray and Ted Robertson; three infant children.

She is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Robert (Pest) Laughter; son, James and Becky Haney; her daughters, Rose Sexton and Angela and Dale Bates; grandchildren, Amber Nicole Haney, Heather Kitchen, Kristy Sosa, Kari Huffstetler, Erica Glance, Terri McCoy, Amanda Flowers, Dustin Flowers, Christine Buckner, Willie Buckner, and Chase Smith; 34 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Doris's spirit will forever live on in the hearts of her family and friends as they remember her laughter, resilience, and the love she shared so generously.

Friends and family are invited to come together to honor Doris's life at a visitation on March 1, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Greene Funeral Service South Chapel - 1503 S. York Rd., Gastonia, NC 28052.

As we celebrate Doris's legacy, we encourage everyone to share their stories and memories, keeping her spirit alive in our hearts. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
