Doris Dean Hughes

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Doris Dean Hughes, who left us peacefully on August 22, 2026, at the age of 92. Born on June 15, 1934, in Cherokee County, South Carolina, Doris spent her life in Gastonia, North Carolina, where she was known by many for her incredible talent and generous spirit.

Doris was a talented winder in the textile industry, but her real passion was sewing. She loved to sew and created beautiful pieces for just about everyone in Gaston County, sharing both her skill and her love with those around her. Above all, Doris cherished her family and held her faith close to her heart. She was a longtime member of Stanley Pentecostal Church and later attended West Franklin Spirit of Life Church with her children. Doris never hesitated to share her love for God with anyone she met.

Left to cherish her memories are her beloved sons, Rick Cooke (Kathy), Mike Cooke (Sandra), Terry Hughes (Kim), and George Hughes (Sally); 15 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, and 6 great great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews, all who will carry on her legacy of kindness and talent.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Hughes; parents, George and Sunnie Wright, 2 sisters, and 1 great grandchild.

To celebrate Doris's life, a visitation will take place on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, starting at 1:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM at Greene Funeral Service South Chapel, officiated by Pastor Jeff Williams. Doris will be reunited with her husband at Westview Gardens Cemetery.

Doris Dean Hughes will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her warmth and generosity will live on in our hearts forever.
