Doris Harvey Copeland

Doris Harvey Copeland of Concord, NC, a former resident of Princeton, WV, passed away peacefully in the early morning of December 31, 2024 in Concord, NC at 92 years old.  She was born in Oney Gap, WV on December 9, 1932.

She was a 1951 graduate of Princeton High School, and was a member of the Landmark First Church of God in Princeton, WV.

Professionally, Doris was a Service Representative (Telephone Operator) for Chesapeake & Potomac Telephone Company, prior to her marriage. She then transitioned to become a beloved wife and mother, as she will be most remembered by those in her immediate family.

You could always find a phone within reach of (if not already in one of) her caring hands.  She was seemingly always available to lend an ear, share her heart, encourage a friend or relative when needed, and/or impart her direct advice.

She enjoyed following her favorite collegiate sports teams of primarily UNC, NCSU, and WVU; and of course whatever sport or team her sons or grandchildren might be a part of at the time, and sometimes with clear verbal words of encouragement, congratulations, or even occasionally including some sideline coaching tips.

Survivors include her two sons, Duane  "Sparky" Copeland and wife Vicky of Inman, SC; and David Alan Copeland and wife Susan of Charlotte, NC; two grandchildren, Adam Kiley Copeland and Kaylee Brooke Copeland; one brother, Ronnie L. Harvey of Princeton; sister-in-law, Thelma Harvey of Annapolis, MD, along with several nieces and nephews.

Doris was the daughter of the late Charles Lawrence Harvey and Nannie Kate "Katie" Caldwell Harvey.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kiley Elwood Copeland; two sisters, Geraldine Harvey Cahill and Betty Harvey Pross; two brothers, Charles L. Harvey, Jr. and Gordon W. Harvey.

A memorial service will be held 1:00pm, Saturday, February 1, 2025, at New Hope Baptist Chruch - 2024 Redbud Dr, Gastonia, NC 28056.
