Donald Ray

Donald "Don" Ray, 81, a native of Gaston Co, NC, passed away Wednesday, June 29, 2022, at his residence.

He was born September 25, 1940, son of the late Hoyt Ray and Ida Harmon Kistler.

Don was a Vietnam Marine Corp. Veteran who served from 1960-1966.  Don had worked for Canteen in Charlotte.  He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.  He enjoyed the outdoors, playing chess online, and listening to music by the pool. Don loved his dog "Buddy".

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Lisa Ann Ray; stepfather, Floyd Everett Kistler; maternal grandparents, Kenny and Fannie Harmon; and paternal grandparents, Claude and Hulda Smith Ray.

Don is survived by his wife of 34 years, Linda Barrett Ray; daughters, Linda Ray Clifton (Alex), Donna Jean Jones; grandchildren, Heather Harris, Ashley Jones, Jody Ray, Jennifer Best, and Michael Jones; great grandchildren, Madison, McKenzie, Jaylan, Mason, Aden, Addlyn, Carter, Ava, and Cyrus; and special cousins, Kenny and Phyllis.

Family will receive friends 6-8pm, Tuesday, July 5, 2022, at the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service – 1503 S. York Rd., Gastonia, NC 28052.

A funeral service officiated by Pastor Johnny Yarboro, will be held 11am, on Wednesday, at the funeral home.

Burial will follow the service with military honors provided by the United States Marines at Hollywood Cemetery, Gastonia, NC.
