Donald Gray Murray, 82, of Bessemer City, passed away on January 19, 2017, at Alexandria Place, Gastonia.
He was born January 26, 1934 in Rutherford County, son of the late John Adolphus Murray and Mollie Florence Freeman Murray.
He was a member of Garrison Memorial ARP Church, Bessemer City.
Mr. Murray was a veteran of the US Army. He was an avid, hunter, gardener and farmer, who was the founding member of the Dairy Goat Association.
He loved his family deeply and was devoted to all of them.
He retired from Winn - Dixie after 30 plus years as the meat manager.
A funeral service will be held Noon Saturday, January 21, 2017, at Greene Funeral Service, West Chapel, 216 Archie Whitesides Road Gastonia, officiated by Pastor Lee Russell.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Interment will be at Westview Gardens, Bessemer City, with military honors provided by US Army.
Pallbearers for Mr. Murray's service will be Doug Dickerson, Marshal Dickerson, Phill Murray, David Ross, Andy Sosebee, Scott Southard.
Mr. Murray is survived by his loving wife of 16 years, Rebecca S. Murray; son, Eddie Murray and wife Linda; daughter, Judy Murray Sosebee and husband Tony; stepchildren, Scott and Richard Southard and Christa Smarr; grandchildren, Andrew Sosebee, Elizabeth Murray.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Jean Hunter Murray; sister, Ruby G. Murray; brothers, William L. Murray and Lenard A. Murray.
