Donald Eugene
Long
December 30, 1945 – June 9, 2026
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Donald Eugene Long, who departed this life on June 9, 2026, at the age of 80. He was born on December 30, 1945, in Kings Mountain, North Carolina, son of the late James Clifford Long and Lorena Bowers Long.
Donald was a proud Vietnam veteran whose commitment to his country was rivaled only by his dedication to his family. He built a remarkable career as a truck driver, spending over 32 years in the industry with a commercial hauling company. His love for the open road was matched only by his passion for working on engines and crafting custom street rods. As a valued member of the Mountaineer Cruisers and local car clubs, Donald shared his enthusiasm for automobiles with fellow car lovers and created lasting friendships. He touched the lives of many through his unwavering spirit and passion for family, friends, and the hobbies he cherished.
In addition to his mechanical talents, Donald found joy in the serene waters, where he loved to fish. However, nothing brought him greater happiness than spending time with his beloved family, especially his grandchildren, who were the light of his life.
Donald is survived by his devoted wife of over 60 years, Brenda Davis Long; son, Donald Scott Long and wife, Robin; daughter, Wendy Ronnette Long; grandchildren, Amanda Long, Jonathan Long, Jacob Long, Brendan Long; great-grandchildren, Jayden Johnson, Jonah Johnson, Juju Johnson; special friends, Carlotta and Ann.
Funeral services will be held in honor of Donald's life 2:00 pm on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at Greene Funeral Service, West Chapel, 216 Archie Whitesides Road Gastonia. The family will receive friends 1-2 pm prior to the service. The burial will be at Mountain Rest Cemetery, Kings Mountain.
The family would like to send a special thank you to the Mountaineer Cruisers Car Club for their support.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Vietnam Veterans War Memorial Fund 1530 Wilson Blvd. Suite 550 Arlington, VA 22209 or vvmf.org
His legacy of love, strength, and commitment will forever live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
