Donald Gene Cole

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Donald Gene Cole, who left us on November 28, 2025, at the age of 71.

Born on December 19, 1953, Donald was a longtime resident of Gastonia, NC, where he touched the lives of many with his warm spirit and remarkable skills.

Donald was a true jack-of-all-trades-if there was something that needed fixing, he was your go-to guy. Whether it was carpentry, plumbing, or any work around the house, Donald could build or fix just about anything. He had a special knack for problem-solving that many admired.

Alongside his impressive skills, he was a passionate fan of NASCAR racing, enjoying the thrill of the track, and found joy in watching old westerns, reminiscing about a different time. His love for riding his bike was evident, as he often took long rides, embracing the freedom of the open road.

Donald is survived by his son, Christopher Olerud, and a loving circle of family, his daughters, Jennifer White, Stacey Cole, and Tammy Olerud, sister Bobbie Smith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gene Cole and Cindy Matthew , sister Linda Cole and half-brother Jake Lowe. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A gathering of family and friends will be held 3:00-4:00pm, Saturday, December 6, 2025 at the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service - 1503 S. York Rd., Gastonia, NC 28052, as we will honor the life of an extraordinary father, craftsman, and friend. In the spirit of Donald, we invite everyone to come together with stories, laughter, and, of course, a few good memories.

Rest well, Donald. You will be missed but never forgotten.
