Dennis P. Kinlaw, 88, of Gastonia, entered into Heaven on December 8th, 2023, at Caromont Hospital, surrounded by his loved ones.
Dennis was a firecracker, coming into the world on July 4th, 1935, in Lumberton, NC. He was the son of the late Alton Taft and Plummie Brisson Kinlaw.
Dennis is survived by his wife of 67 years, Louise B. Kinlaw; his only child, Kimberly Kinlaw Dale and husband, Stan; Grandchildren, Andrew Kinlaw Dale and his wife Tori, Meredith Brittany Dale; Great Grandchildren, Gracie Louise Dale and Callie Rae Dale.
In addition to his parents, he was proceeded in death by his brother, Clyde Kinlaw.
He served his country by enlisting in the United States Air Force. He worked in air traffic control and even played baseball. He loved all sports, especially baseball. He played ball into his 50's. During his high school years his nickname in the local paper was "Old Faithful," when it came to hits and runs batted in.
For almost 30 years Dennis was the owner of Kinlaw Discount Furniture in Gastonia, NC. He worked side by side with his wife to make the business a success.
He was a faithful member of Unity Baptist Church, serving as Superintendent of Sunday School, Sunday School teacher, deacon, and choir member. Dennis was always active in church and served the Lord all the days of his life. Growing up, he sang with multiple gospel quartets, such as the Dixie Harmony Quartet in Lumberton.
He was blessed with a beautiful tenor voice and so enjoyed using his talent for the Lord. He also sang with the Golden Chorus in Gastonia. He felt that going out and singing in churches and rest homes was his ministry and he loved every minute of it.
Dennis was the best Daddy and Papa. He showed true unconditional love, always seeing the best in his daughter and grandchildren. He passed his faith down, sharing his love for Christ in the way he lived out his life. He created a legacy of faith. For that, we will be eternally grateful.
