David C. Smith, Sr.

David C. Smith, Sr., 69, of Gastonia, passed away May 15, 2017 at Caromont Regional Medical Center.

He was born, May 27, 1947, a native of Gaston County, the son of the late Hokom Coleman Smith and Mary Phillips Smith.

David loved playing his guitar, golf and with his dogs.  He loved his family dearly.

Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife of over 50 years, Gloria Saunders Smith; sons, David C. Smith Jr. and wife, Jill, and Mike Finger; daughter, Lisa Smith Thomas; brother, Alvin Smith and wife, Diane; sister, Debra Smith Pressley and husband, Bobby; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and special caretakers, Karen and Daren Fuller.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Robin Lynn Smith and brothers Ronald Ray and Calvin Smith.

A memorial service, officiated by the Rev. Leo Kuykendall, will be held 12 noon, Saturday, May 20, 2017 at Zion Baptist Church, 2437 Propst St., Gastonia.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
