It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of David Gary Sarvis, who left us peacefully on November 12, 2025. Born in New Jersey on September 27, 1946, Gary spent his later years in Gastonia, North Carolina, where he not only lived but truly thrived, surrounded by good friends and family.
Gary was a dedicated material handler in the truck manufacturing industry, but he was so much more than just his job. He was a proud member of the Bright Star Cruisers and the Stranders, where he shared his passion for classic cars and made lifelong friends. In his younger years, he also delighted many as a beach music DJ, bringing joy to countless dance floors and gatherings. Known for his storytelling, Gary could entertain a crowd with laughs and tales from his adventures.
He is survived by his loving children, Kimberly Ann Sarvis, and David Todd Sarvis (Brittany Gates Sarvis); grandson, Austin Sarvis; granddaughters, Anslee and Cambree Price; former spouse, Phyllis Sarvis; and bestfriend and caregiver, Joe Painter. Gary will be dearly missed by all who knew him, including the many friends he found at Tony's Ice Cream, where he was an unofficial ambassador of good times and delicious treats.
A visitation will be held at the Greene Funeral Service South Chapel on Sunday, November 16, 2025, starting at 2:00 PM, followed by a memorial service at 3:00 PM. Those who would like to honor Gary's memory are invited to make donations to Holy Angels in Belmont, a cause dear to his daughter Kimberly.
Gary's journey has ended, but his spirit will live on in the stories we cherish and the hearts he touched. Rest in peace, Gary. You will be missed dearly.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Sarvis, Doris Sarvis.
