David Kelly Sr.

David C. "Bud" Kelly Sr., age 80, of Gastonia, passed away Saturday, November 22, 2014 at the W. G. Hefner VA Medical Center in Salisbury. Son of the late Floyd and Jessie Strange Kelly, he was born October 4, 1934 in Gaston County, NC. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Donald R. Kelly; and daughters, Lisa K. Kelly and Sharon Kathlene Kelly. Bud was a US Navy retiree who served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was a member of Gastonia Seventh Day Adventist Church and was also retired from Yellow Freight. Mr. Kelly is survived by his wife Laverne H. Kelly of the home; son, David C. Kelly Jr. of Gastonia; daughter, Martha Smith and husband Randall of Mt. Holly; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; former wife and mother of his children, Nora B. Kelly. A funeral service, officiated by Pastor Daniel Bran will be held at 2:30 pm on Tuesday, November 25, at Greene Funeral Service, South Chapel, 1503 S. York Rd., Gastonia. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00pm until 2:30pm prior to the service on Tuesday. Interment will be at Gaston Memorial Park.
