Darrell E. Bumgardner, 86, peacefully passed away on Friday, December 3, 2021.
He was born in Gaston County, son of the late Raymond Floyd Bumgardner Sr. and Lillie Mae Caldwell Bumgardner.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Joan R. Bumgardner; son, Michael K. Bumgardner; beagle, Sam; brothers, Raymond, and Harold Bumgardner; sisters, Mercedee Goodman, Thelma Gaston and Kathleen Hudspeth.
Darrell grew up in the town of Lowell, North Carolina. He served in the United States Navy and was retired from Gaston County Schools. He enjoyed playing golf and music. In later years he provided entertainment for seniors throughout Gaston and surrounding areas. He and Sonshyne were regular performers at Jackson's Cafeteria. He was also the author of " A Place Called Art Cloth", a book written about growing up in the mill village near Lowell.
Darrell leaves his daughter, Gina Edwards, and her husband Ray, of Mount Holly; grandson, Brent Edwards, (Mary Meinhardt) of Arlington, Virginia; special nephew, Randy Bumgardner of Stanley, and many caring friends.
A Celebration of Life, officiated by Dwayne Gibson, will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, December 8, 2021, at the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service – 1503 S York Rd, Gastonia, NC, 28052.
A private interment will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Belmont.
