It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Daniel Eugene Jonas, age 82, of Gastonia, North Carolina, on July 11, 2026. Born on July 2, 1944, in North Carolina, Daniel was a beloved father, a devoted family member, and a cherished friend to many.
Beyond his career, Daniel was known for his deep love of football and NASCAR racing, often found cheering on his favorite teams and drivers. A passionate history buff, Daniel had a special appreciation for military history, often sharing fascinating stories and insights that engaged those around him. He was also a dedicated pet owner, showering his beloved cat, Wyatt, with affection and companionship.
Daniel was preceded in death by his parents Daniel and Vera Jonas; loving wife, Kathleen Jonas; son in law, Ricky Gene Brooks; aunt, Margaret Pearl Bennett.
Above all, Daniel cherished his family. He is survived by his children, Elizabeth "Betsy" Baity (Jonathan "Bo" Baity), Jennifer Jonas Brooks, Daniel Walter Jonas (Robbi Jamieson Jonas); grandchildren, Sara Baity Hancock (Zach Hancock), David Daniel Baity, Michael Charles Baity (Hailey Nicole Baity), Parker Daniel Jonas; great grandchild, Timothy Shepard Baity; sister, Leigh Jonas Kiser; sister and brother in law, Carlton and Lael Jordan; life long/best friend, Robert Fitzgerald.
To honor Daniel's life and legacy, a visitation will be held from 2-3pm on Sunday, July 19, 2026, at the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service, 1503 S York Rd Gastonia, NC 28052. A memorial service will follow after the visitation at 3pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider supporting the National Kidney Foundation. (link below)
