Daniel Ball

Daniel Boone Ball, age 84, of Tabor City, NC, passed away Friday, December 19, 2014 at his residence. Son of the late Joshua and Bessie Ellis Ball, he was born February 27, 1930 in Newport, Tennessee. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, R.C. Ball; nephew, Daniel Ball; and niece, Dawn Hefner. Daniel was retired from the U.S. Armed Forces as a rescue mission pilot. He served during World War II, the Korean War, and Vietnam War and was a veteran of both the U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force. He is survived by his wife, Linda Ball; niece, Sheila Brown and husband, Daniel; sister-in-law, Lucy Ball; several great-nieces and nephews; and 7 step-children. A funeral service, officiated by Rev. Bobby Gilley, will be held 11 a.m. Monday, December 22, at Greene Funeral Service, South Chapel, 1503 S. York Rd., Gastonia. The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the service. Military Honors will be provided by the Gaston County Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Arrangements are with the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service and Crematorium, Gastonia.
