Cynthia Marlene Poteat

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Cynthia Marlene Poteat of Lowell, NC, who left us on March 14, 2025, at the age of 68 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Marlene was born in Gastonia, NC and raised in Belmont, NC.

She is preceded in death by her loving parents Walter "Walt" McCurry and Edna Ruth Duncan of Belmont, NC.

She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Grady Poteat; her children, Michael (Michelle) McCurry of Lowell, NC, Rocky (Ashley) Poteat of Fountain Inn, SC, Brian (Miranda) Poteat of Bessemer City, NC, and Michelle (Susanna) Raines of Charlotte, NC. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, Kyle, Nicholas, Austin, Travis, Jasmin, Remington, and Kaitlyn; as well as her great-grandson, Xander. Marlene is also survived by her three brothers, Monte (Sheila) McCurry, Roger (Tina) McCurry, Clinton (Martha) Stephenson; and sister in law, Wanda Poteat.

She retired from Lowell Mini Mart and spent her days surrounded by the love of her three dogs, Buddy, Savannah, and Sweet Pea.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her honor to Gaston County Animal Care, reflecting her deep love for her canine friends.
