Curtis L. Colvin Sr., 83, of Bessemer City, went to be with the Lord Saturday, May 25, 2013 at CaroMont Regional Medical Center. He was born October 2, 1929 in Monroe County, TN, son of the late Edd and Gussie Bridges Colvin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Richard, Reed, and Robert Colvin; and his sisters, Arbie Colvin, Mamie Poteat, and Maxine Barrett. Curtis retired from the Bessemer City Police Department as a Lieutenant after 20 years of service. He was a member of Westview Baptist Church and was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He especially loved his dogs, Harley and Ellie Mae. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of CaroMont Regional Medical Center. Mr. Colvin is survived by his wife of over 64 years, Mabel Davis Colvin; sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmy Lee and Sue Anne Colvin, Tony and Sharon Colvin; daughters and sons-in-law, Ann and Pat Bridges, Treva and Bill Deck, Sandra and Doug Phillips; sister, Bell Campbell; 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held 3 pm Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at Westview Baptist Church, 3385 Fairview Dr., Gastonia, officiated by the Rev. Jerry Millwood. The family will receive friends 6 pm to 8 pm Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at the church. Interment will be at Bessemer City Memorial Cemetery.
