Columbus Wilkins Welch Jr.

January 17, 1927 — March 4, 2015

Columbus Wilkins Welch Jr., 88, of Waco, formerly of Gastonia, went home to be with the Lord March 4, 2015 at his home. He was the son of the late Columbus Wilkins Welch Sr. and Mamie Dills Welch. He was a US Army veteran that served in World War II in Germany. He retired from Globe Manufacturing of Gastonia where he worked as a truck driver. Mr. Welch was a member of New Life Baptist Church of Bessemer City. He loved the Lord and enjoyed playing his guitar. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers, Bill and Bob Welch; sisters, Mert Owensby and Rosa Wooten; son, Roger Welch. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great - grandfather, who is survived by his wife, Carolyn Welch; daughters, Sheila Costner (Ronnie), Joyce Lail, Robin Hargett; stepsons, Keith Anthony (Debbie), Larry Gaddis (Sharon), Mike Rippy; stepdaughters, Carla Mull, June Rippy, Judy Owen; a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren. A graveside service for family and friends will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, at Westview Gardens Cemetery, Bessemer City, officiated by Pastors Gene Ware and Dennis Gomez. Military honors will be provided by Gaston County Honor Guard. Arrangements are with the West Chapel of Greene Funeral Service and Crematorium, Gastonia.
