Clifton Lee Morton

May 2, 1932 — February 3, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Clifton Lee Morton, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, who left us on February 3, 2026, at the age of 93. Born on May 2, 1932, in Maiden, North Carolina, Clifton lived a full and meaningful life in Belmont, where he was known for his strong work ethic and kind spirit.


Clifton spent many years working as a welder in the steel fabrication industry, dedicating his skills and labor to building and creating. He was a veteran of the United States Army, a Freemason, Shriner, a hardworking man. He loved his family very much. He was a simple man.


He is survived by his children and their spouses, Terry Morton, Beverly Arms, Susan Lewis, Troy Morton, Timothy Morton; grandchildren, Travis Arms, Cliff Arms, Tiffany Rushing, Megan Lewis, Troy Morton; ten great-grandchildren; loving niece, Betty Rae Webster; fur baby, Cody.


Clifton was preceded in death by his parents, A. Preston and Maggie Morton; loving wife of 45 years, Margaret Louise Meeler Morton; son, Clifton Lee Morton Jr.; grandson, Kurt Lewis; brother, Ed Morton; sisters, Rachel Clark, Inez Burton, Presaline Clark.


Family and friends will have the chance to pay their respects during a celebration of life at Greene Funeral Service South Chapel, 1503 S. York Rd. Gastonia, NC, on Friday, February 6, 2026, from 4:00 - 6:00 PM. Condolences may be shared online at: www.greenefuneral.com.
