Claude Lovelace Calhoun

Claude Lovelace Calhoun, 85, of Gastonia, passed away on June 23, 2016, at Carolinas ContinueCARE Hospital in Kings Mountain.

He was born September 27, 1930, in Rutherford County, son of the late Louis Tillman Calhoun and Ellie Mae Shepard Calhoun.

Mr. Calhoun was a US Navy veteran who served in the Korean War on the USS Bremerton (CA-130). He was a member of Sharon Free Will Baptist Church in Mt. Holly.

A graveside service will be 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 27, 2016, at Gaston Memorial Park officiated by the Rev. Odell Cook and with military honors provided by the US Navy and the Gaston County Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends 6:00 -8:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 26, 2016, at Greene Funeral Service, West Chapel, 216 Archie Whitesides Rd. Gastonia.

Mr. Calhoun is survived by his loving wife of almost 42 years, Doy Pennington Calhoun of Gastonia; daughter, Angelia Wood of Gastonia; son, Curtis Calhoun and wife Anna of Gastonia; sister, Frances Calhoun Short of Cleo, MI; grandchildren, Cathy Bryson Benoist, Russell Bryson Jr. and wife Shannon, Casey Calhoun and wife Sara, Chelsey Calhoun and significant other, Josh Barker; great – grandchildren, Lauren Benoist and fiancé, Tyler Ledford; Bailey Bryson, Sydney Bryson, Nathan Williams, Brody Bryson and Aleena Barker.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by twelve brothers and sisters.

Arrangements are with the West Chapel of Greene Funeral Service and Crematorium, Gastonia.
