Clarence "C.J." James Hutchins, Sr.

June 28, 1948 — December 12, 2023

Clarence James Hutchins Sr., known to his loved ones as C.J., Jimmy, Daddy, Pop, and Pop Pop; passed away on December 12, 2023, at the age of 75 in Gastonia, NC.

He was born on June 28, 1948, in Gastonia, NC and grew up on Hayes Street in the Arlington Mill Village.

C.J. was a humble, hardworking, and kind-hearted individual. He had zero tolerance for nonsense and always spoke his mind. He could also be a lot of fun and loved with a big heart.  He was dedicated and loyal to his God, family, country, and friends.

C.J. is survived by his beloved wife, Lilieth; his son Aaron; his daughter, Cherith; and his son-in-law, Thomas. He also leaves behind his granddaughters, Zaeva, Xanthe, Annezly; and grandson, Dagonét Moore. He was preceded in death by his father, Morton Ray Hutchins; and his mother, Margaret Louise Hutchins.

C.J. attended Pedon Elementary for his primary education and later graduated from Tryon High School.

During the Vietnam War, C.J. served with honor in the United States Army and received multiple commendations for going above and beyond the call of duty. As a cook in the military, he always made himself available to prepare a hot meal for a returning platoon no matter the time they arrived back at base. He served his country with honor and honored those soldiers that stood beside him.

After his military service, C.J. dedicated over 30 years of his life to the Wix Filter Corporation. He started from the factory floor and worked his way up to become a skilled forklift operator and eventually the metal expediter for the entire Allen Plant in Gastonia, NC.

In his spare time, C.J. enjoyed fishing, driving in the snow, videography, and spending quality time at home with his family. And always loved spending time with his grandchildren.

At this time, funeral arrangements for C.J. are private. However, a Celebration of Life will occur for him at a later date. For those who wish to honor his memory, contributions can be made in his name to any reputable charity that assists our wonderful military veterans, as C.J. believed in supporting those who served our country.
