Clara Faye Bynum

Clara Faye Bynum, age 77, passed away on February 18, 2026. She was born on June 17, 1948.

Clara was preceded in death by her parents, Dorcas and James Philbeck; her beloved husband, Carl Bynum; her daughters, Melinda Bynum and Melissa Hilliard; her brother, Ellis Philbeck; and her sister, Judy Hiland.

She is survived by her daughter, Angela Jenkins (Randy Jenkins); her brothers, Wayne Philbeck, Leonard Philbeck, Howard Philbeck, and Ricky Philbeck; and her sister, Barbara Kelly.

Clara was a proud and loving grandmother to Jason Benfield (Eva Mayne), Rachel Woods, Renee Woods, Quentin Woods, Tommie Davis Jr., Destney Robles, Rudy Robles, and Jair Robles. She was also a devoted great-grandmother to Cristhian Islas, Gabriel Austin, Kehlanni Woods, Arizona Austin, Bailey Austin, Emilia Austin, Nehlani Woods, Leo Pardo, Olivia Pardo, and Piper Austin, all of whom brought her immense joy.

Clara Faye Bynum will be remembered for her strength, her warmth, and the unconditional love she poured into her family. She was an amazing grandmother and great-grandmother whose presence will be deeply missed and forever cherished.

Clara will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service and a funeral service officiated by Reverend Wayne Philbeck will be held Sunday, February 22, 2026, 3:00 PM at the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service, 1503 S. York Rd., Gastonia, NC. A visitation to follow the service.
