Claire Jolene Barnes Carswell - Born October 25, 1934 in Gaston County. Died July 4, 2024.

Daughter of the late Fannie Gibson Barnes and Ernest Meek Barnes. Wife of the late Richard Damual Carswell. She married her late husband of many years on September 5, 1954. She was also preceded in death by her daughter and son in law, Suzanne Carswell and Paul Lowman; brothers, Roy Lee Barnes, Ernest Andrew Barnes, J C Barnes, Thurman Barnes, Ken Barnes, Louis Barnes, and Jerry Ray Barnes

She was employed at Wix Corp from 1968 to 1996. She was a member of Taylor Memorial Baptist Church for over 40 years, where she prepared the Lord's Supper Ceremony Table and played the piano for the church for the last 5 years. She was also a member of the Martha Goebel Club through the Lucille Tatum Center with a group of friends that visited the Adult Day Care Center once a month to celebrate birthdays for the last 5 years. She loved the Lord and her family faithfully every day of her life. She faithfully prayed for family members and friends by name for salvation and healing. During her last few weeks with us she made sure to tell us often how much she loved us and told us that she had a good life. She said she knew she was loved her whole life.

Those that are left to cherish her memories are her daughters, Melissa Carswell Littlefield - (Gary), and Sherry Lynn Riley - (Diane); grandchildren, Jon Jansen (Marci), Christopher Jansen (Meghan), Carrie Renee Powell (Gregg), Mary Anne Stover (Kevin), and Richard Hawkins - (Jess); great-grandchildren, Victoria, Patrick, Tye, Clarissa, Evan, Christian, Teagan, Emily, Nolan, Hazel, and Silas.

A Graveside Service will be held 11:00am Saturday, July 13, 2024, at Westview Gardens in Bessemer City and will be officiated by Pastor Gene Alley. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Taylor Memorial Baptist Church - 2616 Davis Park Rd, Gastonia, NC 28052.
