Charlie "Glenn" Gipson

Gastonia, NC Charlie "Glenn" Gipson, age 82, passed away April 15, 2013 at his home. He was born March 23, 1931 in Waynesville, NC, son of the late Glenn Alexander Gibson and Martha Jane Blanton Ammons. Mr. Gipson was a member of Friendly Baptist Church. He served as Chairman of Deacons, Church Treasurer and was Choir Leader at Zion Baptist Church for 25 years. He also served as a Deacon at Freedom Baptist and Friendly Baptist churches. Glenn sang in gospel groups since the age of 17 years old. He has written many songs, praising his Lord. His deepest desire was to tell all he met about his Lord and future home in Heaven. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of Gaston Hospice and the Pilot Club for their kind and compassionate care of Mr. Gipson. A celebration of life service will be held 2 pm on Friday at Greene Funeral Service, South Chapel, 1503 S. York Rd., Gastonia, officiated by Rev. Robert Coleman Ammons Jr., Rev. Marshall Lewis Owens and Rev. Sam Robbins. The family will receive friends 6-8 pm on Thursday at the funeral home. Interment will be at Westview Gardens, Bessemer City. He is survived by: his loving wife of 65 years, Rosie Modean Gipson; daughters and sons in-law, Judy and Doug Browne, Linda and Rev. Marshall Lewis Owens; brothers, Willard Ammons, Charles and Bill Gibson; sisters, Ruby Allison, Linda Walden, Janie Venton; grandchildren and their spouses, Wendi and David Shields, Thomas and Julia Adair, Matthew and Michelle Browne, Wendi and Doug McCraw, Elizabeth Arrowood; great grandchildren and their spouses, Samantha and Daniel Martin, Joshua Jennings, Erin Shields, Summer Shields, Brooke and Eric Carlson, Alexis Adair, Justin Arrowood, Victoria and Noah Browne, Griffin Evans; great-great granddaughter, Cheyenne Martin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: his son, Thomas L. Gipson; brothers, Robert, Sam, and Roy Ammons, Edward Gibson; his close, long time friend, Robert Helton.
