Charles U. Tanner passed away Friday, December 10, 2021, under Hospice Care, in his home, surrounded by family. He was born October 30, 1933, in Williamsburg County, SC to Exlie F. Tanner and Annie Lylerly Tanner.
Charles loved the years he grew up on the farm and later in Charleston where his father worked in the shipyard during WWII. He and his brother, Bill, rode their bikes all over Charleston and repaired and sold bikes.
Later, they moved to Gastonia where he met Ruby Hullett, and they married on July 12, 1952.
They had a wonderful life serving the Lord in their local church.
Charles received an apprenticeship in tool and die and enjoyed a long career at Amp, Inc.
After retiring at age 55 he and Ruby enjoyed traveling around the world on mission trips.
They worked with Men and Women of Action in Australia, Germany, New Zealand, Alaska, and many projects stateside.
He was an expert carpenter and helped build many medical facilities, churches, schools, widow's homes, etc. They made many lifelong friends whom they loved dearly.
Charles will be missed so much by many, but his children, John Charles Tanner (wife, Denise) and Teresa Tucker (husband, Mark) will miss his Godly wisdom so much. He is also survived by his grandchildren, John Christopher Tanner, Julie Tanner Haney, Joseph M. Tucker (wife, Sarah), and David A. Tucker (wife, Rachel). He leaves great-grandchildren, Chloe Haney, Lily Tucker, Andrew Tucker, Sadie Tucker, Faith Tucker, Judah Tucker, and Leeanna Burgess. He is also survived by sister-in-law, Pat Hullett Hager (husband, Don) and many nieces and nephews.
Other than his parents, Charles is also preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Tanner; brothers, Johnnie Huggins, William Springs, Bud Tanner; and sister, Esther Lane.
A service of celebration will be held at 1:00pm on Tuesday, December 14, 2021, at Destiny Church, 3723 York Hwy, Gastonia, NC 28052.
Family will receive friends at the church 11:30am - 1:00pm.
Burial will follow in Gaston Memorial Park, New Hope Rd., Gastonia, NC.
