Rev. Charles Johnson, Sr.

Rev. Charles "Richard" Johnson, Sr., 80, of Gastonia, NC, passed away Sunday, December 12, 2021, at Caromont Regional Medical Center, Gastonia.

He was born April 19, 1941, in Gaston Co, NC, son of the late Emory Johnson and Laura Brackett Robinson.

Richard was a good man. He was kind, caring and considerate. He was a former minister of Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) for 12 years, and a minster at United Methodist Church for 12 years. He was in the Western North Carolina Conference with the United Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Janice Eaves.

Richard is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Sandie Johnson; sons, Charles R. Johnson, II, and Greg Johnson; daughter, Jackie Johnson; 7 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; first wife, Jackay McDaniel; and fur baby, Bigboy.

A memorial service officiated by Pastor Mark Etchison, will be held 3pm on Wednesday, December 15, 2021, at the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service – 1503 S. York Rd., Gastonia, NC 28052.

Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Burial will be private.

Family has requested that mask be worn when attending services.
