Charles William Lancaster

Charles William "Charlie Brown" Lancaster Sr., 83, of Bessemer City, passed away peacefully into Heaven's glory on Saturday, November 26, 2016, at Caromont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia.

He was born June 9, 1933, in Spartanburg County, SC, son of the late Gus Lancaster and Lillie Mason Lancaster.

Charlie was a member of the First Wesleyan Church of Bessemer City. He was a man of the finest Christian character. He was employed by Firestone Textiles for over 43 straight years. Charlie enjoyed woodworking which brought him much joy through the years. He also was a dedicated gospel music fan.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, William "Chuck" Lancaster Jr.; 6 brothers; and 2 sisters.

Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife of 64 years, Gladys Greene Lancaster; daughter, Judy and husband, Rev. Scott Whitner of Bessemer City; niece Barbara and husband, Douglas Wilson of Inman, SC; and many other nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life service will be held for Charlie 3pm on Tuesday, at the Family Life Center of First Wesleyan Church of Bessemer City, 510 E Alabama Ave, Bessemer City. Officiating will be the Revs. Scott Whitner, Wes Brown and Jerry Lumston.

The family will receive friends 1-2:45pm before the service at the Family Life Center.

Interment will be held at Westview Gardens Cemetery in Bessemer City.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Wesleyan Church, PO Box 682 Bessemer City, NC 28016.

Arrangements are with the West Chapel of Greene Funeral Service and Crematorium, Gastonia.
