Charles Howard Deal, Jr.

Charles Howard Deal, Jr, 82, of Gastonia, NC died November 9, 2020 peacefully at home. Born August 3, 1938, he is the son of Charles H Deal, Sr and Linda Marie Kennerly Deal in Mooresville, NC. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Martin Deal, his daughters, Stacy Roseanne (Christopher)Lovdahl of Hickory NC,  Susan Marie (Randall) Bormann of Gastonia, NC and his son Kelly Martin (Lan) Deal of Brevard, NC,  and his brother Grady Allen Deal of Honolulu, Hawaii. He is preceded in death by his brother Donald Lee Deal, Sr of Ocean Springs, MS.

Charles graduated from Mooresville High School, served a four year tour of duty in the US Navy aboard the USS Rochester.  Traveling the South Pacific gave him an appreciation for the region which he  was fortunate to visit as a successful businessman in later years. His career with Management Recruiters International/SalesConsultants began in 1971 as an Account Executive. In 1974 he was promoted to General Manager of Sales Consultants Columbus, OH and in 1975 was promoted to General Manager of Management Recruiters/Sales Consultants of Pittsburgh, Pa. His mentor, Bill Blume said of him, "he's a person who makes a commitment and follows through. He does the usual things in a most unusual way."  After twenty-five years in the Pittsburgh office he realized a dream of returning to his home state of North Carolina and in 1989, he opened his own successful office of Management Recruiters in Gastonia, NC.

A lifelong gardener, Charles' retirement allowed him to take his aptitude for propagating and nurturing plants to a new level. Charles, aka Chuck, had a talent for envisioning the landscape and in the year 2000 embarked on his avocation, developing his 3 acre homeplace into a small forest of trees and bushes, flower gardens and a plentiful vegetable garden.

Chuck had a deep love of his family and also committed to giving his children the best education and a loving home.

Funeral arrangements are with Greene Funeral Service South Chapel, Gastonia, NC. A brief service for family will be held at the Veteran's Ceremonial Gardens, Salisbury, NC.
