Charles Joe Childers, 87, of Gastonia passed away December 11, 2014 at his residence. He was born January 11, 1927 native of Gaston County, son of the late A.M. Childers and Cretie Sibidge Childers. Charles was a member of the South Fork Masonic Lodge #462 in Cramerton. He was a US Army WWII Veteran. He was a member of Riverside Baptist Church, Cramerton and Co-owner of New Hope Greenhouses. Charles was also an avid golfer. He is survived by his son Wayne B. Childers and wife, Beverly of Belmont; several nieces and nephews and a very special family friend, Cheryl Hiscox. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Ernestine Childers; brothers and sisters, Joseph "Joe" Childers, Edward Childers and Jessie Warren. The family wishes to say a special thank you to his caregiver, Martha Izzard and the Hospice of Gaston County. A funeral service will be held 2 pm Monday at Greene Funeral Service - South Chapel - 1503 S. York Rd., Gastonia, officiated by the Rev. Alan Lefler. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial with masonic rites and military honors will be at Gaston Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to: Gaston Hospice - PO Box 3984, Gastonia, NC 28054 or Riverside Baptist Church, 76 Riverside Drive, Cramerton, NC 28032 or Gaston County Honor Guard - 434 Jenny Street, Gastonia, NC 28054. Arrangements are with the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service and Crematorium, Gastonia.
