Charles Vernon Benton

Charles Vernon Benton, 77, of Gastonia, passed away June 4, 2022, at Caromont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia.

He was born May 21, 1945, in Cleveland County, son of the late Ferguson V. Benton and Sally Mae Butler Hinson.

Charles was a loving husband and father.

He was a prolific gardener, animal lover, avid deer hunter and outdoorsmen.

He had worked at Tyco/Amp and Homelite for many years.

The family will receive friends 6-8 pm Friday, June 10, 2022, at Greene Funeral Service, West Chapel, 216 Archie Whitesides Road, Gastonia.

Charles is survived by his children, David Benton and wife Kim, Sharmie Bright, Wendy Nichols, Stephen Suttles; brother, Eddie Dean Hinson; sister, Lynn Hinson; grandchildren, Danielle Bright Coates, Zachery Bright, Kara Benton Sepulveda, David Benton, Christopher Cline, Brett Cline, Olivia Nichols; great-grandchildren, Serena Sepulveda, Alijah Coates, Christian Cline and 13 others.

In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his loving wife, Sandra "Sam" Redding Benton; stepfather, Boyce "Curly" Hinson, Charles considered him as a father; daughter, Kimberly Benton Cline and her husband Junior; granddaughter, Crystal Vickers.
