Loving wife, mother, grandmother, and school teacher

Mrs. Catherine H. Ross was a native of Iredell County, NC and grew up in the community of Scotts. She was the daughter of the late Maude (Rhyne) and William Earnest Hunter. She was sister to the late William Hunter of Mooresville and Virginia Hunter and Jean Murray of Bessemer City. She was a graduate of Appalachian State Teachers College and retired from teaching in 1992 after 34 years of service with Gaston County Schools, mainly in Bessemer City. One of her greatest joys as a teacher was helping children learn to read. Catherine was also an avid gardener and shared the abundance of her garden with friends and family. She was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church where she enjoyed being in the Barringer Circle.

Catherine was preceded in death by Robert McGill Ross, her husband of 48 years, and her daughter, Phyllis Ross. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, David and Shirley Ross of Charlotte; daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and James Wooten of Lansing, NC; grandson and wife, John and Camille Wooten along with Hugo, her great-grandson, of Waterbeach, England; and her granddaughter, Dr. Anna Wooten of San Antonio, Texas.

Mrs. Ross was helped in her last months and years by the loving and caring support of a team of care givers.

A funeral service officiated by Pastor Ron Orovitz will be held Saturday, February 3, 2024, 2:00 PM, at the West Chapel of Greene funeral Service, 216 Archie Whitesides Rd., Gastonia, NC.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 pm prior to the service at the funeral home.

Burial will follow at Mountain Rest Cemetery in Kings Mountain.
