Carole Guffey May, 78, of Bessemer City passed away April 30, 2015 at Terrace Ridge in Gastonia. She was born April 23, 1937 a native of Gaston County the daughter of the late Fred and Ethel Guffey. Carole was a member of First United Methodist Church of Bessemer City, where she was the nursery coordinator for many years. She was also a teachers' assistant at Bessemer City Primary until she retired. Left to cherish her memories are sons, Jason May of Belmont and Derek May of New York; daughters, Angie Sellers and husband Greg and Carron Bradley and husband Terry all of Gastonia; brothers, Reggie Guffey and wife Norma and Dayle Guffey and wife Charlene; sisters, Patricia Logan, Sydney Conrad, Maudie Robinson and husband Bobby and Janet Sabucco and husband, Flavio; brother-in-laws, Bill May and wife, Dominique and Nathan May and wife, Emily; grandchildren, Mary Catherine May, Clay Sellers, Jessica Stewart and husband Jonathan, Caroline Ingram and husband Chris; she was Mimi to Chloe and Collins Herman and included in her extended family are all of her "School House Girls". In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Calvin May. A funeral service will be held 3:00 pm Saturday at First United Methodist Church - 110 W. Alabama Avenue, Bessemer City, officiated by the Rev. Carter Ellis. The family will receive friends 1:00 - 2:45 pm prior to the service in the fellowship hall at the church. Interment will be in Westview Gardens. Pallbearers include: Steve Wright, Jason May, Justin Wright, Clay Sellers, Grady Herman, Chris Ingram and Jonathan Stewart.
