Carl Simms, Jr.

Carl H. Simms, Jr., 78, of Gastonia, NC passed away January 7, 2026, at CaroMont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia, NC.

He was born August 9, 1947, in Gaston County, NC to the late Carl Hood Simms, Sr. and Alda Holland Simms.

In addition to his parents, Carl was also preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Jerry Broome.

Carl was a member of Catawba Heights Baptist Church in Belmont. He enjoyed playing tennis, riding his bike, playing golf, and spending time with his cigar buddies. He enjoyed spending time with his wife, daughters, sons-in-law, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His favorite place to vacation was Jekyll Island, Georgia.

Carl is survived by his wife of 58 years old, Elaine Sutton Simms; daughters Angela Kemp (Frank) and Meredith McMillan (Ben); sister, Louise Broome; grandchildren, Lindsay Clontz (Josh), Morgan Kemp, Cooper McMillan, and Kendall McMillan; and great-grandchildren, Farrah Clontz, Malachi Clontz, and Oakley Clontz; and several nieces and nephews.

A service to celebrate Carl's life will be held Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at Catawba Heights Baptist Church, 311 Belmont Mount Holly Road, Belmont, NC 28012, at 4:00 pm. The family will receive friends, prior to the service, at the church, 2:30 - 4:00 pm.
