Brenda Sue Smith

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Brenda Sue Smith, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Brenda, age 80, passed away peacefully in Stanley, North Carolina, where she spent her life making memories and touching the lives of those around her.

Born in South Carolina, Brenda was a spirited individual who lit up any room she entered. Having worked as a spinning instructor in the cotton textiles industry, she was no stranger to hard work. Brenda was also a devoted member of Open Arms Holiness Church in Stanley, where her faith and warmth left a lasting imprint on her community.

Brenda had a talent for crocheting and was known for her love of hats-especially during Easter, her favorite holiday. Those vibrant hats will always remind us of her joyful spirit. Cleaning was another activity she enjoyed, as she often took pride in creating a tidy and welcoming environment for her family and friends.

Brenda is survived by her loving husband, Macon Smith; children, Rodney Furr, Magaret Dailey and Deborah Furr (fiance, Jonathan); siblings, Carrol Benfield (Dean), Keith Hargett (Peggy) and George Hargett (Janet); cherished grandchildren, Jordan Cook (Audrey), Rodney Helton, Adam and Brandon; great grandchildren, Avia Brenda Cook and Zane; she is also survived by her step children, Lisa Davis and Teresa Fore (Scott); step grandchildren, Timothy Davis and Justin Davis (Victoria). The family will hold onto the countless memories and love she shared with each of them.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

While we mourn her loss, we also celebrate the vibrant life Brenda lived. She left us with love, laughter, and cherished memories that will forever stay in our hearts.

Brenda was preceded in death by her parents, F. M. Hargett and Margaret Walters Hargett.
