Bobby Ray Walker

Bobby Ray Walker, 76, of Gastonia, NC, went home to be with the Lord, Monday, September 11, 2023, at Caromont Regional Medical Center.

He was born December 31, 1946, in Garner, Wake County, NC to Henry Ford Walker and Annie Bell Parish Walker.

Bob graduated from Garner High School in Garner, NC in 1965. Bob was a graduate of Campbell University, Buies Creek, NC in 1969. Bob had a full scholarship for both basketball and baseball at Campbell. People would come and sit in the stands and tell those around them that they came to see the Campbell boy play ball. They did not realize that they were telling his mother that. Bob's love for ball did not end there. He played for a traveling softball team for Aetna.

Bobs greatest love was for the Lord Jesus Christ. He taught 5th grade Sunday School for a number of years. He taught young boys in the Royal Rangers at Gastonia First Assembly.

Bob was employed with Aetna Insurance and retired from there at the age of 50. He then went to work for Travelers Insurance and retired from there at the age of 62. Bob served in the US Army Reserve.

Bob was a very kind and gentle man. He was a man of great integrity. He was the type of man that it was an honor to call him your friend.

Bob is survived by his loving and caring wife Edie. Bob loved and honored his wife Edie as Christ Jesus loved the church. They had a beautiful full life of 47 years together. Survived also by their one son, Rob, and two grandchildren, Jacob, and Gwen. He loved his family with a deep caring love. Also surviving are his sisters, Elsie Bynum, and Sue and Mikey Best, and brother Doug and wife Roslyn Walker.

In addition to his parents, Bob was also preceded in death by his brothers, Billy Wade Walker and Bennie Earl Walker, and his brother-in-law, Johnny Al Bynum.

Funeral Services will be held at Gastonia First Assembly of God, 777 S. Myrtle School Road, Gastonia, NC, 28052 on Monday, September 18, 2023 at 2:00 PM. Visitation will be one hour prior at the church. A burial will follow at Gaston Memorial Park.
