Rev. Bobby Jean Grigg, age 84, of Bessemer City passed away Friday, September 12, 2014 at Morningside Assisted Living Center in Gastonia. He was born April 20, 1930 in Cleveland County, NC, son of the late Charles Pinkney Grigg and Nora Davis Grigg. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Joseph Grigg and Bud Revels; sisters, Mary White, Eva Ledford, and Elizabeth Dickert. Rev. Grigg loved being an American. He was a Korean War veteran who received a Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, and Army Commendation Medal, and was retired from the US Army. In addition to being retired from the Army, he was retired from Gaston County Dye. Rev. Grigg loved the Lord and his family dearly. He was the Associate Pastor of Sunset Lane Baptist Church in Bessemer City. He is survived by his loving wife of almost 61 years, Joanne Meadows Grigg of Bessemer City; children and spouses, Debbie Strider and husband, Randy of Gastonia, David Grigg and wife, Lisa of Bessemer City, Diane Brooks and husband, Gene of Bessemer City; sister, Jenny Kidd of Old Fort, NC; grandchildren, Brian Harrell, Nick and Josh Strider, Brandon and Sean Grigg, Amanda Grigg, Whitney and Haley Brooks; and 14 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 pm on Monday, September 15, at Sunset Lane Baptist Church, 1001 N. 12th St., Bessemer City. A funeral service, officiated by Revs. Dick Hannah Jr. and Harry Kidd, will be held 11:00am Tuesday, September 16, at the church. Interment will be at Armstrong Cemetery in Gastonia. The U.S. Army will provide military honors and serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Sunset Lane Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1237, Bessemer City, NC 28016 or the Alzheimer's Association, 3800 Shamrock Dr., Charlotte, NC 28215 Arrangements are with the West Chapel of Greene Funeral Service and Crematorium, Gastonia.
