Biven "Shorty" E. Hawkins, Sr.

Biven "Shorty" E. Hawkins, Sr., 75, of Gastonia, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Thursday, January 21, 2016, at CRMC, Gastonia.

He was born November 28, 1940, in Gaston County, son of the late Vernon and Ruth McCall Hawkins.

Shorty was a loving son, husband, father, and grandfather. He was a man of integrity and had a great sense of humor. Shorty was a Bass Master Angler and avid artist. He enjoyed participating in bass tournaments and placed in several tournaments. He placed 1st in Gaston County Bass Masters at Lake Wylie in November 1979, where he was awarded the Budweiser Boat.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Judy Brown Hawkins and brother, John Hawkins.

Left to cherish his memories are his son, Gene Hawkins, Jr.; daughters, Beth Hawkins Adams and husband, Fred, Angie Hawkins Johnson; brother, Robert Hawkins; 6 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held 2pm on Saturday, at the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service, 1503 South York Rd., Gastonia.

The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Interment will be held at Westview Gardens Cemetery, Bessemer City.
