Billy Edwin Herron

Billy Edwin Herron, 92, of Gastonia, passed away at his home on September 7, 2022.

He was born December 23, 1929, in Burke County, NC, to the late Rev. D.P. Herron and Julia Lloyd Herron.  He was the oldest of four children.

Billy loved the Lord, his family, and his church.  He was a member of Yorkwood Church of God for more than 48 years.  During his membership at Yorkwood, he served as the administrative clerk for over 29 years.  He served in our military in two branches – the United States Air Force for over 6 years, and the United States Army for over 33 years.  During his service in the Army, he attained the rank of Sargent Major.  Billy loved doing word search puzzles.  He also enjoyed watching ball games, especially the UNC Tarheels, Carolina Panthers, and the Atlanta Braves.  He also enjoyed eating sweets.

In addition to his parents, Billy was preceded in death by his wife of 74 years, Geraldean "Jerry" Herron; a daughter, Edwina Herron; and brothers, Jimmy, Kenneth, and Eddie Herron.

Billy is survived by his son, Lynn Herron and wife, Angie; grandchildren, Kelsey, Tyler, Chloe, Chad, and Delaney; and great-grandchild, Emile.  He is also survived by his grand fur babies, Maggie and Lucy.

A service to celebrate the life of Billy will be held Sunday, September 11, 2022, at 2:00 pm at the Yorkwood Church of God, 405 Stagecoach Road, Gastonia, NC 28052.  Visitation will be held at the church, beginning at 12:30 pm, prior to the service at the church.

Interment will follow the service at Gaston Memorial Park, 1200 South New Hope Road, Gastonia, NC.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Yorkwood Church of God, ATTN:  Samaritan's Purse, 405 Stagecoach Road, Gastonia, NC 28052.
