Billie Williams Moten was restored to God's perfection on Thursday, April 6 at 5 pm.

She passed at Gaston Memorial Hospital where she began her career as a nurse many years earlier.  She had been sick with rheumatoid arthritis for over 25 years, but never let it deter her faith in God or determination to live her life as an example to her two children Jamie Knight and Travis Carr.

She is the offspring of Gretta and James Williams, a feisty Norwegian from Waukon, Iowa and a Mountain Man from Whittier, NC.  Born on September 10, 1947, she was instilled with a work ethic and common sense that were a winning combination. She was an athlete and scholar at Ashley High School in Gastonia, where she graduated in 1965.  Billie attended nursing school with intentions of doing missionary work around the world, but soon began a family with Randy Carr which she devoted her life to.  Together, they traveled America from Virginia to Texas, making homes along the way.  In 1983, she returned to North Carolina and began the second act of her story as a single-mother and full-time nurse.

Billie worked for Covenant Village Retirement Home and Services for the Blind, where she touched the lives of old and young alike.  Some of her favorite things were comforting the elderly or checking the eyes of school children with vision tests.  As her children grew, she supported their academic and extracurricular lives, and one day the world opened back up for her personally with the entrance of James E. Moten.  They were married on April 6, 1996, at Sandy Plains Baptist Church in Gastonia.  Billie and Jim remained together until her passing.  In the meantime, she loved to spend time with her grandchildren, Laurel, Samuel, Lorelei and Emma.  She also became stepmother to Jamey and Jeff.  Billie continued to travel and enjoy life even as her affliction diminished her body.  She was always there for her sisters Joetta, Sina, and Nancy, and her brother Jimmy.  She is reunited in Heaven with those who have already passed; and she reassures those who are left behind that another angel now watches over them.
