Betty Sue Smith

Betty Sue Bell Smith, 93, of Gastonia, peacefully passed away on July 4, 2026, at White Oak Manor in Kings Mountain. A lifelong resident of Gaston County, Betty was born on February 14, 1933, and was the beloved daughter of the late Clyde and Thelma Henley Bell.

Betty had a deep love for her family and found great joy in caring for the many children she had the privilege of spending time with as a daycare owner. She also had a special talent for baking and decorating cakes, a gift she enjoyed sharing with others.

Betty's kindness, warmth, and love will live on in the precious memories cherished by her family and all those who knew her.

Betty is lovingly survived by her daughter, Becky McDonald (Mike); her son, Clyde Smith (Darla); her grandchildren, Shane Mathis (Renee), Michelle McClure (Charlie), Tommy Hudson (Gidget), Travis Smith (Amanda); eight great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren

In addition to her parents, Betty was reunited in death with her beloved husband, Bill Smith; her brothers, Graham and Bud Bell; and her sister, Martha Bell.

A funeral service celebrating Betty's life, officiated by Rev. Sam Barnette, will be held at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service, 1503 S. York Road, Gastonia.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service, beginning at 11:00 a.m.

Following the service, Betty will be laid to rest beside her husband in Lutheran Chapel Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Travis Smith, Tommy Hudson, Shane Mathis, Ronnie Davis, Christian Mathis, and Robert McCullough.
