It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Betty Jo Ledford, who left this world on February 25, 2026, at the age of 90. Betty was born on February 20, 1936, in Gaston County, North Carolina, and she spent her life as a dedicated teacher assistant at Southwest Middle School and York Chester Middle School, shaping the minds of countless students.
Betty was not just a teacher; she was a loving mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, and friend to many. She is survived by her two sons, Keith Ledford (Sharron) and Kevin Ledford; her grandsons, John Ledford and James Ledford Allen ; her precious great-granddaughter, Avi Patrick; nephews, Donnie, Dandy, Jason; niece, Wanda; special friends, Elise, Glenda, Toby, Beth, Karen, Sandy, Paul, Todd, Melinda, Brian, Lanny, Marcus, Lareina and several other special friends who’s live were touched by knowing her.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Ledford; parents, Harry and Verla Sanders; grandson, Christopher Ledford; brother, Larry Sanders; nephew, Jonathan Sanders; special niece, Jamie Smith; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Ray and Barbara Smith, Danny and Janice Ledford.
Betty was a proud member of Macedonia Baptist Church, where she cherished the community and made countless memories.
Known for her creative spirit, Betty had a passion for sewing and crafts, always finding joy in creating something beautiful. She loved to cook for the family and everyone enjoyed her cooking. She loved to spend her time in her garden, nurturing her flowers and vegetables, which brought her great happiness and was a source of pride.
Family and friends are invited to gather in celebration of Betty's life. A visitation will be held on Monday, March 2, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at Greene Funeral Service - West Chapel at 2:00 PM. She will be laid to rest at Westview Gardens, to be reunited with her husband.
We will miss her kindness, wisdom, and colorful spirit. In our hearts, she will always be remembered.
