It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved Bertie Lovenia Frankum, who left us on September 13, 2026. Born on April 3, 1960, in Gastonia, NC, Bertie spent her life full of love and hard work, dedicating many years as a spinner in the textile industry.
Bertie was a proud mother to her daughter's Brandy Sargent, Ellen Saunders (Stephen), and her son Ricky "Mann" Frankum (An-Ting), who will carry her memory and spirit with them always. She cherished her family and friends, and her warm presence will be missed by all who knew her. Also left to cherish her memory are her brothers, Johnny Coleman, Darvin "Jr." Randolph Coleman Jr.; sisters, Bonnie Coleman (Cowboy), Barbara Roberts (Ben); grandchildren, Jasmine Saunders, Christian Saunders, Jaden Saunders (Ava Shackleford), Silas Saunders, Briana Arrowood (Aaron Staton), Eric "Little E" Sargent, Raven Frankum; great-grandchildren, Serenity Arrowood, Devin Arrowood, Odin Kennedy; her significant other, Dennis Bolding.
We invite all who loved Bertie to join us for a memorial service officiated by Pastor Wands Long, at Friendly Baptist Church, 1422 N. Rhyne St., Gastonia, NC, on Saturday,September 19, 2026, at 4:00 PM. There will be a visitation before the service, starting at 3:00 PM, where folks can gather to share stories and celebrate her life.
Bertie was preceded in death by her parents, Darvin & Ellen Wooten Coleman; husband, Ricky Eugene Frankum; brother's, James Ivey Coleman, George Edward Coleman, Clarence David Coleman; sister, Mary Grace Coleman; son-in-law, Eric Gary Sargent; grandsons, Ashton Saunders and Devin Sargent.
Let's come together to remember the incredible woman who touched so many lives. Bertie may be gone, but her kindness and laughter will live on in our hearts.
