Bertha Stewart Gibby

Bertha Stewart Gibby, 89, of Gastonia passed away July 23, 2014 and the angels are rejoicing as another saint has come home. She was born December 20, 1924 in Cherokee County, daughter of the late Pearlie and Cordilla Stewart. Bertha was a member of the South Gastonia Church of God, where she was actively involved in all church ministries, especially in the Prayer Group. She is survived by: her sons, Jimmy Watson and wife, Linda and Ronnie Watson both of Gastonia, Johnny Gibby and wife, Christi of Clover; brother, Ray Stewart of Gastonia; sisters, Mildred Hodge and Dorothy Stiles both of Andrews; grandchildren, Rhonda Watson, Jessica Gibby Cochran and husband, John, Jill Drake and husband, Wayne, Crystal Jenkins; great-grandchildren, Brittany Braswell, Josh and Ashley Drake and Donnie Jenkins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, James Watson and Kelbur Gibby; son, James Watson, Jr.; daughter-in-law, Geneva Watson; one brother and one sister. A celebration of life service will be held 11:00 am on Saturday at the South Gastonia Church of God - 310 Carolina Ave, Gastonia, officiated by the Revs. Bobby Gilley and Sam Barnette. Visitation will be 6:00 - 8:00 pm on Friday at the church. Interment will be at the Olney Presbyterian Church cemetery. Memorials may be made to the South Gastonia Church of God - Building Fund - 310 Carolina Ave, Gastonia, NC, 28052. Arrangements are with the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service and Crematorium, Gastonia.
