Benjamin Fields

September 24, 1948 — December 4, 2022

Gastonia

Benjamin 'Benny' Byers Fields, 74, passed away peacefully at home on December 4, 2022. He was born September 24, 1948, to the late John Wesley Fields and Arlene Jenkins Beaty.

There's not a way to put into words who Benny was. He was funny, loving, fearless, and stubborn. Benny served his country in the United States Army, doing a tour in Vietnam. He loved being outdoors. Whether he was taking care of his animals, in the woods hunting, carp fishing with his friends, or sitting by the fire drinking a cold bud light telling stories about his younger days. From talking about karate chopping rabbits, to his Elvis impersonations, there was never a dull moment when he was around.

In addition to his parents, Benny was preceded in death by sisters, Vickie Wallace, Marian Jenkins Miller and brother, Roger Fields.

Benny is survived by his sister, Kathy Ballard Johnson and husband Mike; brother Alan Catoe; children David Waldroup and wife Jessica, Chad Johnson, Michelle Long; grandchildren Steven Johnson and wife Lindsey, Alexis Johnson, Kaytlin Waldroup, Justin Johnson, Morgan Johnson, Trenton 'Hoss' Waldroup, Jessi Johnson, Regan Long; great grandchildren Logan Johnson, Jocelyn Johnson
