In loving memory of Bayard Gunter Junior, born April 9, 1938, to McCalister Gunter and Audrey Chastain. He went to be with his Lord and his beautiful wife of 69 years on February 23, 2026.
Bayard had stage four cancer, but he passed from Broken heart syndrome, he missed our mom so terribly bad.
Bayard was a Civil Engineer and had not only did he have his own license to survey, but he also worked for the City of Gastonia for fifteen years and the City of Charlotte for thirty-five years. He also retired for four other civil jobs.
He and Ruby gave to many different charities throughout their lives.
Bayard is survived by his five legacies, Scott of Kings Mountain, Ann (Jan) of Dallas, Kelly (Kirby) of Shallotte, Mark (Renee) of Kings Mountain, Chad (Robin) of Kings Mountain; eight grandchildren who loved him very much, Ruby Hill, Jeffrey Marting, Jennifer Tanner, Joshua Tanner (Jessi), Stephanie Martin (Thomas), Craig Funter, Chad Gunter Jr., Shannon Messer (Bruce); twenty great-grandkids and eleven great-great grandbabies.
Preceded by death was his caring parents, Bayard McCalister Gunter and Audrey Chastain; his lifelong partner and love of his life, Ruby Gunter; five brothers, Travis, Leonard, Bobby, Ted and Douglas Gunter; two grandsons, Randy Hill and Justin Gunter; infant daughter, Debra Ann Gunter.
A memorial service will be held 2:00 pm Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at Greene Funeral Service, West Chapel, 216 Archie Whitesides Road Gastonia, officiated by Pastor Kevin Busler. An Inurnment service will follow at Westview Gardens in Bessemer City.
