Barbara Jean Poteat Alexander

Barbara Jean Poteat Alexander joined her heavenly family on March 10, 2022, surrounded at home by her beloved daughter, granddaughters, and sister. She was a faithful member of First Assembly of God in Gastonia, where she was a youth leader and participated in mission trips to Mexico, El Salvador, and Jamaica. She held a Master of Science in Nursing and was a long-time Public Health nurse for Gaston County, where she supported children at Sadler Elementary and other schools.

She is preceded in death by husband Robert "Bobby" Wayne Alexander, parents Madgeline and Thomas Poteat, and sisters Linda Haney and Dale Fisher.

She is survived by daughter Christy Noel and granddaughters Celia and Olivia Noel-Brown of Maryland, by sister Judy Hastings of Gastonia, and by many loving nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and -nephews. The extraordinary light she brought to the lives of family, friends, colleagues, neighbors, and her church community shines on in her works of compassion, faith, and generosity. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, March 19th, 2022, at First Assembly of God, 777 S. Myrtle School Road, Gastonia, NC 28052. Visitation begins at 2pm; service begins at 3pm.
