Barbara Dodson Downam, 83, of Lincolnton, passed away June 9, 2015 at Lincolnton Rehabilitation Center. She was born March 5, 1932 in Grant County, Indiana, daughter of Irma Dodson Alber, 98 and the late Russell Edward Dodson. She was a member of Dallas Baptist Church and a member of Woodmen of the World of Gastonia. Barbara was also a hair stylist for over 50 years. She is now the only missing link, of four sets of 6 generations. Left to cherish her memories along with her mother are her daughters, Cheryl Scarberry and husband Joseph and Rhonda Hunter and husband Marshall all of Dallas; son, Harry E. "Buddy" Downam, Jr. and wife Rhonda of South Carolina; sisters Marjorie Lou Howell and husband Bob of Indiana and Margaret Jean Brown and Riley of Virginia; grandchildren Rhonda Ayers and husband David, Everett "Donnie" Cox and wife Judy, Jamie Hamilton and husband Jami, Robert Hunter and wife Rebecca, Russell Hunter, Annie Burgess and husband Jody, Brad Downam and wife Megan, Casey Downam and wife Mallorie, 14 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her father she was preceded in death by her husband Harry E. Downam, brothers Russell Jr. and Bennie Dodson and sister, Rebecca Johnson. A memorial service will be held 11 am Saturday at Dallas Baptist Church, 402 W. Trade Street, Dallas, officiated by Reverend Barron Lee. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. Inurnment will be at Riverside Cemetery, Gas City, Indiana at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Dallas Baptist Church c/o Live Embers, 402 W. Trade Street, Dallas, NC 28034. Arrangements are with the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service and Crematorium, Gastonia.
