Avery Wood

Avery Manual Wood, 95, of Charlotte, passed away on Thursday, March 4, 2021, at his residence.

He was born on December 13, 1925, in Jackson County, NC, to the late Fred Nathan Wood and Myrtle Ann Womack Wood.

Avery was a World War II Navy veteran, who served in the south Pacific. He attended East Belmont Church of God. He loved to take photos and working with wood. Avery and his wife loved to travel and visit new places.

In addition to his parents, Avery was preceded in death by his sons, Arthur and Michael Wood; brothers, Alvin, Albert, Alfred, and Amos Wood; and sister, Alice Wood Parris.

Left to cherish Avery's memories are his loving wife of 71 years, Jeanette Ballew Wood; daughter, Kay Holcomb and husband Larry of Mt. Holly; brother, Andy Wood of Huntersville; sister, Alma Leonard of Ohio; grandchildren, Brian Holcomb, Jason Holcomb, Scott Holcomb, and Wendi Wood Foreman; and great-grandchildren, Grant Smalls, Aiden Foreman, Austin, Jaden, Dylan, and Autumn Holcomb.

A funeral service for Mr. Wood, officiated by Pastor Danny Peterson, will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at East Belmont Church of God- 320 E Catawba St, Belmont, NC 28012.

The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service at the church.

A graveside and committal service will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, March 8, 2021 at Union Hill Cemetery in Whittier, NC.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice of Gaston County - PO Box 3984, Gastonia, NC 28054.
